Lithuania slams NATO’s inaction after Russian drone crashes on its territory, urges strong allied response

“Incidents unthinkable 3 yrs ago are now treated as routine,” he wrote.

“Nothing should be landing on Ukraine, or Latvia, or anywhere on NATO territory, but this is the new reality our inaction has allowed to emerge. Lithuania will of course be supporting a strong allied response.”

Russian Drone Crash in Latvia

A Russian military drone crashed in the Rēzekne area of eastern Latvia, the country’s Defense Ministry reported on Sept. 7.

Early reports indicate the drone entered Latvian airspace from Belarus.

At least eight drones — seven combat drones and one reconnaissance drone — flew into Belarusian territory in the Russian drone attack on Ukraine, the Belarusian monitoring group “Belaruski Hayun” reported.

The Russian Embassy’s representative will be summoned on Sept. 9 to explain the incident, Latvia’s Foreign Minister Baiba Braže said.
