Ukraine downs 34 of 51 Shahed drones in massive overnight Russian assault – Air Force

The drones were launched from Kursk and Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia, as well as from Cape Chauda in temporarily occupied Crimea.

Twelve drones lost radar contact in several Ukraine’s oblasts, and two returned to Russia due to the active countermeasures taken by the electronic warfare (EW) units of Ukraine’s defense forces.

Air defense systems operated in Mykolaiv, Kherson, Sumy, Poltava, and Kharkiv oblasts.

Aviation, anti-aircraft missile forces, mobile fire groups, and EW units of both the Air Force and Ukraine’s defense forces were engaged in repelling the enemy assault.

Air raid alerts were issued across several Ukraine’s oblasts overnight on Sept. 17. In particular, Russian forces carried out a massive drone strike on the city of Sumy. Water is being supplied at reduced pressure, and due to power outages, trolleybuses will stop operating there.
